Detox tips from Saimaa Miller


In her new book Aussie Body Diet & Detox Plan, she reveals her seven secrets to optimum health, helps readers to learn which type of detoxer they are, and how to devise an individual program to best suit their lifestyle. We caught up with Saimaa to get the lowdown on her top 10 detox tips.


1.Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Drinking lots of water is essential, especially alkaline water. Alkaline water, also known as antioxidant water, has a higher pH which helps to extract acidity from the body.
2.Have a green juice most mornings. It is a great way to give your body all the vital nutrients required to help with its detoxification processes. 
3.Take some time out for you. If you're running around like a head-less chicken, you'll be in fight-or-flight mode, not detox mode. Your body needs to feel safe in order for it to go into detox mode - and feeling safe means slowing down and relaxing.
4.Let go. Detox time is the best time to turn over a new leaf.  To look inward and study you.  To focus on what you want and clear old baggage.  To get clarity and understand your true potential.
5.Use fresh herbs. Many herbs are not only loaded with antioxidants, they also enhance flavours in food so you can easily give processed condiments a miss.
6.Go alkie! Herbs such as parsley and coriander are super-alkalising, and have the ability to harmlessly remove heavy metals from the body. Parsley is another great herb as it's loaded with vitamin C and beta-carotene
7.Add a scoop of green powder to juices, smoothies or water.  Sounds about as yum as munching on cardboard - but seaweeds and algaes are notorious for containing more chlorophyll than any other plant.  This not only helpful in detoxification but also supports a healthy immune function.
8.Serve a big, raw salad with your main meals. This will not only help to clean your body but also will improve satiety -the feeling of fullness after meals.  What's more is that you'll be surprised with what little else you actually need.
9.Use raw organic apple cider vinegar. Yes, it tastes acidic but it's hugely alkalising. It has the ability to aid our digestion and give our livers a little kick-start. A detoxer's best friend.
10. Dine like a pauper. Having less food in the evening allows your body to complete its digestion quickly and efficiently, and therefore be able to attend to repairing and restoring optimal health.
